Harvest of Thoughts

I have so many people ask me questions about Numerology, and its relevance to their lives. How can such an archaic system still have meaning for me?

The truth is - Numerology has stood the test of time. It is still here 'as a system to decipher the world around you, the people in it, and most importantly yourself'. I think it is fair to say, we have all tried to understand ourselves by different spiritual means and pathways. I found the exploration and explanation of energy defined through the Numbers 'a clean and readily available pathway to my Soul and my life goals'. It is not the only way - but for me it gave me enough distance from myself to see clearly who I am.

We have just passed the Lammas point in the seasons of the year. From Wikipedia:

"In Anglo-Saxon England Lammas was the name for the first day of August and was described in Old English literature as "the feast of first fruits", being mentioned often in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. It was probably the day when loaves baked from the first of the wheat harvest were blessed at church. The loaves might then have been used in protective rituals: a book of Anglo-Saxon charms directed that the Lammas loaf be broken into four parts, which were to be placed at the four corners of the barn, to protect the grain".

In the Medicine Wheel, we divide the passing of each year into Four parts: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Human life has Four major parts: Birth, Childhood, Adulthood, and Elderhood. Can you see how the passing of the seasons can be related to your life? Lammas might be described as 'the time of harvest and reflection on the magic and joy of childhood, before stepping into the freedom and independence of adulthood'. This doesn't mean leaving behind childhood. The Medicine Wheel works by carrying with you the 'harvest of every part of your life'. Each year you live should be a 'celebration of the seasons, and the time of life that you are in'. And, it should be mindful. "It is true, that we only pass this way once". Mark it in your Soul and in the way you live.

In the Numerology I practice, there are "Four Roads to Enlightenment": your Destiny, your Approach, your Ultimate Goal, and the Golden Link which binds them all into action. Take some time to relate these Four Roads to the seasons of the year, and the seasons of your life. It is very powerful. We are going to take a deep look at how to calculate your Destiny Number. But, before we do that together, I am going to introduce you to the Numbers and their different energies in the coming weeks. This way, your Destiny calculation will make sense to you. I invite you to join me for this journey. But, for now how about taking some time out 'to bring in your Harvest'. Have a little celebration of your childhood magic, and the magic things that have happened to you this year. Life is tough enough - we need to remember our good times to give us the faith and strength to go on. Happy Lammas to you all.

Pythagoras

I teach and offer counselling souced from the original theories of Pythagorean Numerology. Here is a short history of Pythagorus from my "Numerology for the Soul Guidance Cards" booklet.

Most Numerologists agree that the history and knowledge of Numbers, and the practice of Numerology can be attributed to the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras, 570 BC - 490 BC. Born to a wealthy merchant father and educated mother, Pythagoras received the best of Greek education as a child and young man. He was also fortunate to travel with his father in Greece, Italy, and throughout the Middle East on trade business. Around 535 BC, at 35 years of age, he went to Egypt to pursue his interests in higher mathematics and astronomy.

In 520 BC at the age of 50, he returned to his birthplace in Samos, Greece to setup his own school. A few years later, due to local politics and unrest, he moved his philosophical and religious school to Croton, in Southern Italy. It is here that he lived out his life and had many of his mathematic breakthroughs with his students. The Mathmatikoi Society consisted of men and women. They had no personal possessions and were Vegetarians. Communalism and the practice of Music were very important to the group. The shared beliefs and rules of the Society were strict:

  1. that at its deepest level, reality is mathematical in nature,
  2. that philosophy can be used for spiritual purification
  3. that the soul can rise to union with the divine
  4. that certain symbols have a mystical significance, and
  5. that all the brothers of the order should observe strict loyalty and secrecy.

Karma Healing Lessons

Pythagoras believed in Reincarnation, and the idea that our Soul travels through many lives to accumulate experiences and wisdom.

Pythagoras believed that all relations could be reduced to number relations. Aristotle wrote:

“The Pythagorean … having been brought up in the study of mathematics, thought that things are numbers … and that the whole cosmos is a scale and a number … to Pythagoras numbers had personalities which we hardly recognise as mathematics today”.

“Each number has its own personality – masculine or feminine, perfect or incomplete, beautiful or ugly. This feeling that modern mathematics has deliberately eliminated, but we still find overtones of it in fiction and poetry…”.

Manifest Destiny?

"to show something clearly, through signs or actions" Cambridge Dictionary

to "manifest" something means to bring a desire, goal, or outcome into reality through focused thoughts, beliefs, and actions.... Google search

I think there is space to discuss the ideas and principles behind 'manifesting destiny' in current spiritual practice. In terms of Numerology, there is a way to find out your Soul's Destiny for you in this life. This is different from what current culture says is 'available to you if you manifest a desire, goal, or outcome'... I am a believer in 'manifestation practice in balance'. How much more powerful would it be to work from your own Soul's promise of destiny, and empower the goals that were set for this life's expression? I would argue that if you're not working from your Soul - it could be that you've been convinced by modern society to work from the Ego-Mind 'manifesting and chasing ideas of success and acceptable goals'.

Remember the trinity of the 'Soul informing the Mind, and the Body enabling your true gifts'. Where are you working from when you consider your Destiny? So much of modern day life would have you believe in 'manifesting the goals of your Mind or Body'. But, without guidance from the Soul, life can become chasing dreams that never crystallise truly. Let's begin with understanding the cornerstone of your existance. Numerology can gift you your true Destiny, and 'bring it into manifestation'.

Everything begins in 0'

from "Numerology for the Soul Guidance Cards" deck. 2023

In Numerology, 0’ represents the Void. It is that safe, quiet space where all things begin – and to which all things will return. It is the All, the Universe, the Creator – it is timeless, calm, and loving. In this deck it is the colour of Midnight Blue. I have chosen to include 0’, as it is a reminder of a place where there no vibration, frequency, or resonance. “It is before Becoming”. This is such a valuable concept in concern of the Numbers. Consider the idea that in every decade we live, we return to the Void. It is here that we can pause and become acquainted with the new energy that we will now enter. Imagine, as we become 10’, 20’, 30’, 40’, 50’, 60’, 70’, 80’, and perhaps 90’ years or older. In each of these decadal years, it is useful to think that you could review your life in the Void before you begin a new spiral of lessons. The years that contain 0’ afford us rest, review, and rebirth. The 0’ card can be used to lay alongside the Number cards of the decadal birth years to enlighten you on what to expect for the years ahead.

Note: Consider in the same way the presence of 0’ as a mark of time in centuries; 1000 and 2000 AD. The three 0’s represent a gift from the Void. The energy of the lessons in the 1000’s was gifted to the Masculine in 1’, The Alchemist. We are now in the gifted age of the Feminine in 2’, The Intuitive, and at the very beginning of our lessons for the 2000’s. The gift of the three 0’s or the return to the Void will continue through the all the century markers and time as humanity progresses through life here on Earth.

Why Medicine?

There are so many 'old sayings' concerning the word 'medicine'. How about,

"Take your medicine - you'll feel better".

"They chose poorly - now they'll have to take their medicine".

"Nobody wants to have to take medicine, but when all options have been tried it is what we have to do".

"The medicine of the day..."

"Laughter is the best medicine".

The meaning I prefer, and the reason I've chosen to use the "Medicine Journal" for my blog is based around Native American beliefs. "Life is a journey around the Medicine Wheel". Some tribes call this journey the "Red Road". Both terms infer that 'life is not easy', and many things will happen to you to help you learn and remember who you are. Your Mind, Body, and Soul must learn to act together in harmony to become strong and gain your Inner wisdom. This not only helps you, but it helps your family, community - your tribe.

I've chosen to teach Numerology by pairing the "Wheel of the Year - the Changing of the Seasons" with the meaning behind the "Medicine Wheel Journey of Wisdom". Numerology will reveal with the seasons of your life, your own "Soul Roads of Enlightenment". Numerology can give you your "Soul Medicine". This is the 'medicine' your Soul chose to learn and follow in this life. My question to you is,

"Are you ready to take your Medicine"?

The world is a 'Red Road' right now - are you ready to take up the challenge of knowing who you are?

Sense of Place and Liminality

Sense of Place, “Either the intrinsic character of a place, or the meaning people give to it, but, more often, a mixture of both”. Oxford Reference.com

“Liminality is a quality of being in between two places or stages, on the verge of transitioning to something new… Liminality is rooted in this idea of a threshold (limen in Latin), a kind of doorway between the past and the future”. Vocabulary.com

I fell in love with these two concepts while being a Field Archaeologist years ago. The ideas behind their meaning both enchanted me and encouraged me to think and feel deeper. Simply put, archaeology is about ‘connection to the people and places of the past’. Today, there are all kinds of technology and tools to help archaeologists excavate sites. Although, this new way of digging saves time and labour, nothing can replace ‘sensing the energy of place’. Consider, people chose places to live that would provide sustenance and sustainability. The human impact of people in an environment leaves an imprint. If, you are very lucky as an Archaeologist you will feel this investment of energy in the landscape. No map or tool can bestow this special ability.

I’m going to challenge you to take these ideas and definitions behind ‘sense of place’ and apply them to yourself. Have you been able to ‘connect to the people and places of your past’? Have you been able to understand the link between how your ‘Mind, Body, and Soul’ work? There are all kinds of tools and practices in the world of today to help you ‘excavate yourself’, but nothing can really replace the time of listening and feeling into the nature of who you are. Reconnection comes by simply trusting you have meaning and purpose. What energy imprint do you wish to leave for yourself and in your landscape?

I’m going to suggest you enter a ‘liminal space’, and allow time to become reacquainted with yourself? All civilizations have a ‘rise and fall’, and so do we as humans. It is how we learn and advance. We’re living in a time of transition, so isn’t it time to look at your process and rediscover who you are? There are a few in Archaeology that find the ‘liminal spaces of the past’ the most interesting times to study. The questions of how humanity begins again after all is lost is by far the richer landscape to map. Don’t become lost or comfortable in the ‘liminal zone’. Step over the threshold. The ancient practice of Numerology can guide you to your past and future self.

The Mind, Body and Soul Connection

These words have become so common in our present world, that in a sense they have lost their meaning. If we strip these words back to the essential, something new and important can be found.

Mind: Navigator. From childhood onwards we learn survival techniques to keep us safe. We hope that we learn the ethics and morals that our family and community need us to know to act in care for each other. Humankind belongs in the world together, and it is our duty to be responsible for ourselves and all that we share life with.

Body: Vehicle. We are gifted in this life with a sacred flesh and bone body. We need to learn to respect and care for it well, for it is the home of our Mind and Soul.

Soul: Compass. Our Soul is our own inner light. It is eternal and part of the Universe (some say God or Creator, or perhaps the Divine). It has travelled through many lives learning ‘the Lessons of Evolvement’. Everything our Soul learns is shared with the Universe. How did we stop listening to our own Wisdom? It is our Soul that informs our Mind and Body how to act from love. Love is what we are here to learn, through all the challenges and difficulties of being Human. Your true and pure Soul voice can be heard if you remember and learn to listen for it. This can only happen in connected inner quiet and peace. Your Soul never leaves your Body or Mind. You must seek it out, and most importantly learn to trust and use it. It is your 'true North' on the compass and your Guide.

I came upon a poem while researching for my website. I’ve posted it on my Contact page. Let’s look at the words more closely. This is where our work begins.

Mind: I’m worried.

Body: Just relax.

Mind: But, I’m totally lost now.

Body: Just follow me.

Mind: But you’ve never been there before.

Body: Trust me, you’ll love it.

Soul: If you two are quiet, I’ll show you the map.

The Medicine Journal

I live with my husband in a small cottage on a soft chalk hill in Cambridgeshire, England. My garden tumbles down into a stream, that joins a river, that runs out into the Fens. I live out on the 'reach of the river' - out of reach of the everyday world. My village is called Reach.

This is a landscape of water and sky. At times, the quiet can be quite unsettling. The Fens will put you back in touch with your Soul, as there is very little to interrupt that humbling conversation. There is great humility and connection to what Nature brings here. I have found a deep bond to this place. Sometimes, I think we search much of our lives looking for a home for our hearts. The natural world intrinsically knows where it should be and why. But, we as human beings seem to be constantly looking for somewhere to belong, connect, and create 'a Sense of Place'. Perhaps, our hearts might remember if we were to turn the noise of the accepted world down, and return to the land and ourselves.

The Waterland has brought me back to myself. It is here that I discovered Numerology. And, quite like Pythagorus, the vibration, frequency, and energy of this place made me look deeper into how Nature, the World, and perhaps how the Universe works. Through Numerology, I was able to decode and discover the gifts my Soul wished to bring to this life. I have never looked back or questioned where I am now. Every day is a gentle walk of understanding. They say, if you find your Soul gifts life is not work - everything flows like water. I have found this to be true. Perhaps, I can help you do this too. Let me guide you to finding your "Roads of Enlightenment and Expression". It is a wonderful journey of remembering...

"The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature".

Joseph Campbell
